Yeah, no offense, but I have a hard time understanding the original post, I would definitely check the u-joints and reclock the driveshaft to troubleshoot any driveline vibration. Also take a real good look at the tires, bad tires can cause all sorts of vibrations that seem to come from elsewhere. 1 - 5 of 5 Posts Not open for further replies.

The curve that you have in most stuffing tubes is also there to stabilize the flex from whipping inside the tube. you would also need to mod the tube @ the outer end for the stub shaft to run in 2 bearings. A nylon or teflon liner could use up the excess space and act like a bearing. There's always a solution.

Which in turn is vibrating the whole truck. It seems like it could be from dry bearings. So my initial thought was that the bearings are bad. However I jacked my truck up yesterday and the wheel does not have any play. I tried shaking both front wheels and they seem solid. Ive also heard that bad u joints at the drive shaft could cause vibration.

Our Tahoe's drive shaft has been making a noise for a while. The noise happens usually at slow speeds. Best example is when you are in a drive through, that speed level. But it can also happen if you are sitting still. So, I had my wife rev the engine and I got under the Tahoe and I am 98% sure it is coming right from within the drive shaft and ...

If that doesn't solve it, go to a LOCAL drive shaft shop that you can have make a custom shaft for you. That way if it doesn't solve the problem, you can have them rebalance or add more angle etc.

Jack it up, and check all axles and driveshaft for any excessive lateral or radial movement. sometimes on of the inner CV joint bearings will blow out (semi-spherical roller needle bearings) and create strange issues. I have considered installing an aluminum drive shaft. Reading some of the negative threads on them has me hesitating. When I get up to 80+ mph I get a slight vibration with stock drive shaft. Not in the steering wheel but feels like the whole car. Looking in the rear view mirror at 80+mph the view is blurred.

This was not the same feeling at all as when the drive shaft was failing. The vibration starts and continues even when not accelerating. It also continues when I coast in neutral at 40-50 mph. Tires are Nexen Radian HP 255/55R18 about 2.5 years old. So I had the tires balanced and replaced brake rotors and pads a few days ago.

Sep 5, 2022Vibrations. One of the most recognizable signs of a bad drive shaft is vibrations. If you are driving your car and there are harsh vibrations coming from it that start to rattle the steering wheel, you may have an issue with the drive shaft. This is typically due to worn-out bushings of the drive shaft, as the bushings are usually what keep the ...

Drive shaft vibration on acceleration Vibration can come from a variety of sources. Even though you've likely checked some of them, check again. Tires - very common and easy to not get balanced properly. Axles - they can get out of balance and feel like drive shaft. Fan - a bad bearing can throw the fan off center and create bad vibration. .

THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. Now instead of the buzzing inside the cabin when I decelerate, that vibration resonates in the new steel drive shaft and makes hella noise outside of the car when I let off the gas. It sounds like something vibrating on a sheet of metal. No, nothing is hitting the drive shaft and nothing else is rattling under the car.

The average crankshaft sensor replacement cost is between $150 and $250. However, it's not uncommon for those prices to skyrocket if you have a higher-end vehicle. That's because the labor costs are typically between $90 and $110. From there, the rest of the cost comes down to parts. VW T5 Body Parts and Fittings.

Drive shaft dampers reduce or eliminate torsional vibrations and natural frequencies that are transferred from the motor to the drive shaft. The elastomeric element, mostly rubber, is optimized for NVH requirements, high temperatures and temperature stability, as well as low tolerances.

I took the drive shaft to a drive shaft shop. Again replaced all the U joints and carrier bearing. New carrier bearing eliminated the bearing noise.

There are three orders of vibration to look out for: first, second, and third. Each is a reference to the number of shakes per revolution of the drive shaft. The first order vibration would be one shake per drive shaft rotation, the second order would be two shakes per rotation, and the third would be three shakes.

A bent shaft causes shaft rate vibration (1x) in all three axes. Depending on the location of the bend, one might also see an elevated 2x in the Axial direction. Harmonics of 1x are also possible. Below you can see once per revolution (1x) vibration in the horizontal direction. Below you can see shaft rate (1x) vibration in the vertical direction.

The dealer never did figure out what it was even though they told me they substituted a drive shaft from another truck, which I dont think they really did. It was never in any of the paper work.

Bent shaft problems cause high axial vibration with axial phase differences tending towards 180° on the same rotor. Dominant vibration normally occurs at 1X RPM if bent near shaft center, but at 2X RPM if bent near the coupling. Pump bent shafts are more common at or near the coupling. Dial indicators can be used to confirm a bent shaft. 4..

If you can feel the vibration, the frequency should give you an ides of its origin. At 60 to 80 mph the drive shaft is turning 2000 to 2500 rpm which is a pretty high frequency. The tires are turning about 1/3 the speed of the shaft. Does the vibration feel like 40 beats per second (shaft) or 12 beats per second (tires).

It's way more likely that a vibration at speed is coming from the driveshaft than a diff, just look at the number of posts on here and tally up how many are DS related vs diffs. Complete OEM DS lists for just over $400, so at $130 for new joints + balancing at a shop, seems like you're well under cost for new range.

If you can help it, I would suggest not driving the car much until you either fix the issue or switch back to the stock driveshaft. It looks like you are sitting at or close to a shaft resonance and the last thing you want is a driveshaft shattering at speed.
