Commerical machine shops tend to use the spindle brake to stop the spindle so they get wore out. Obviously this is the case with mine. I considered a couple other fixes. Epoxying a flat plate on the end of the brake shoes so they wouldn't wear a groove in them. I'd have to mill down the shoes an equivalent amount. Filling in the grooves with epoxy.
